Seth Godin on Social Networking
Over at Brand Infection they have a snippet by Seth Godin on Social Networking. I’ve often tried to express my disdain for social networking but never was able to put it quite as properly as Seth Godin does. The short video is well worth watching. The crux of the video is this message:
Networking is always important when it’s real and it’s a useless distraction when it’s fake.
And that is simply so true. And he indicates, quite rightly, that these sites are distractions. They’re fun if you’ve got the time, but if you’re in business they’re not going to help you much. Seth Godin puts it best:
It’s worthless to have lots and lots of friends on Facebook ’cause they’re not really your friends. They’re just people who didn’t want to offend you by pressing the ignore button.
